
Carl Gustav Boberg was born in Sweden, on Aug. 16, 1859 to a carpenter.
He worked briefly as a sailor and then served as a lay minister.
Carl Boberg wrote the original poem of “How Great Thou Art” in 1866. It was titled, “O Store Gud.”
Rev. Boberg edited the weekly Christian periodical entitled, Sanningsvittnet or translated, Witness of the Truth, from 1890 to 1916.
During his lifetime he published more than 60 poems.
He served in the Swedish Parliament for 20 years, 1912-1931.
He died January 17, 1940.
