
George Job Elvey was born in England on March 27, 1816, and died in England on December 9, 1893. He was educated as a chorister.
Before he turned seventeen, he was a highly skilled organist. At the age of nineteen he became organist and master of the boys at St. George’s Chapel, the home church of the royal family.
On his forty-seventh year at St. George’s Chapel, he played many services involving the royal family.
In 1863, he played at the wedding of the Prince of Wales, who became King Edward the VII, upon Queen Victoria’s death in 1901.
In 1871, he was knighted after writing the Festival March for the wedding of Princess Louise.
