Eugene Bartlett was a prolific hymn writer, having composed several hundred hymns. He had a stroke that ended his career and he became confined to one room in 1939, unable to communicate. Dying, he spent almost a month writing this last song, when most of his hymns were written in a few minutes. Although broken in health, and unable to speak, he wanted to demonstrate that his faith had not cracked under suffering. In spite of his condition, it was another two years before he died.
